If the Middle School had shown us some empathy and compassion, I wouldn't be writing this review. Despite all of this, if you are still planning on sending your kids to Immanuel, ensure your kids are well-equipped to compete in sport by getting them involved in as many local sporting/surfing clubs as possible from an early age, because that's how most of the friendship groups are formed. The requirement to compete in sport MUST be instilled into them. By the time we entered the school, brand new in year 8, the cliques were in place. Overall -EXTREMELY embittered by our experiences, but alas - we are nobody, no-one seemed to care, no understanding was shown to us. It's run like a corporate business enterprise. As a family, our stress levels reached high levels as a result of being at this school.

Immanuel College is a great school. It has a pool and many other things. I love it. Parents, if you want a up to date review, it is worth more than 5/5 stars. I would definitely advise you to send your child there. If I were a parent, I would send my child there with the last penny I have.

Disappointing. It seems as if one MUST excel at sports and or music to fit in. I suggest you start your child in middle school in Year 7, rather than year 8 as this is where a lot of friendships are formed.

Both of us were glad to leave the middle school. Extra-curricular sport is compulsory for all middle school students, both a summer sport and a winter sport. This is in addition to weekly PE lessons, or students can combine one sport with the school choir or a school band or a voc-pop singing group. There is NO option for DANCE as a co-curricular until year 10 (senior school). Given that many students these days are hard-working, entrepreneurial-minded who wish to learn valuable work-skills in addition to gaining an income from a Saturday morning retail job, Immanuel will force them to choose a sport which doesn't have Saturday games. Immanuel calls the act of playing extra-curricular sport "giving service" to the school, which is all fine and dandy if you fit the Immanuel mould - (sporty), but woe behold if you don't. In making sport compulsory, the school benefits greatly as it allows them to "show-off" their sports program. If you happen to be a lesser-known "Nobody" at this school (ie - not one to excel at sport or if your parents didn't play sport for a state team), you will not be treated very well & the help you may receive will be quite minimal. With regards to gaining assistance academically, when we asked for extra assistance in a few academic subjects, the teacher/s tactlessly advised my parents to "..get a tutor". In terms of subject options and flexibility in Middle School (years 7 to 9), when we inquired as to whether I could change my language option upon entering year 9, (a request which was made in term 3 of year 8) we were met with a resounding "NO". This vividly contrasted with the assistance the school gave to a brand new student, who entered the school halfway through year 9, whom had no prior experience of their preferred language, with the school fitting him in & finding him a place. Note there are only TWO language options in middle school, German and Japanese (no Chinese, unless you are of Chinese descent) unlike Westminster, which has Chinese from year 8 onwards. Regarding feedback - the year level coordinators are NOT at all pleased to receive any negative feedback about the school (.."All our students are happy at Immanuel, must be your child's problem, see a counsellor.."). The teachers at this school earmark certain students, favouring them over others and giving them great opportunities. The teachers appear all 'chummy-chummy' with their parents, even becoming their friends on social media, and will refuse to listen or to even acknowledge the other non-favoured parents if their are issues with the favoured ones. If a family has multiple siblings at the school, the same favouritism applies.
